Local police clamp down on criminals in operations

Some 53 traffic fines to the value of R19 000 were issued to motorists.

Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole led operations in the Katlehong North policing precinct on January 4.

The operation saw 53 traffic fines issued to motorists, totalling R19 000.

Officers arrested 14 people for being undocumented, four for dealing drugs, two for the possession of drugs, three for dealing in liquor without a licence, and closed three second-hand goods shops because of non-compliance.

The SAPS confiscated drugs in Katlehong during their operations.

Ekurhuleni district communication officer Captain Nelda Sekgobela said they confiscated liquor, dagga, Mandrax tablets and cash.

“Parallel to the operations, a street imbizo was conducted on Nhlapo Section, Sector 1 of Katlehong, by the district commissioner, her deputy, the Katlehong North station commander, the CPF chairperson and the area councillor.”

They addressed overlapping tavern operation hours, noise control, the closing of non-complaint scrapyards, and the withdrawal of cases, among other problems.

“Law Enforcement also conducted integrated opperations to clamp down on various suspects on January 3.”

Some 201 suspects were arrested by the detectives who worked on the night of January 3 in the district policing precincts to trace suspects and ensure they were brought to book.

“Among the suspects, 130 were arrested for contact crimes, 22 for contact-related crimes, 28 for other serious crimes, and 37 for GBV-related problems,” said Sekgobela.
