Local teacher bows out after more than four decades

Over the years, she has taught many different curriculums and almost every subject the school has ever had.

After 43 years at Dunvegan Primary School, Cheryl Lochner has bid the school farewell as she retires.

Fresh out of college, Lochner began her teaching career in January 1981.

Over the years, she has taught many different curriculums and almost every subject the school has ever had.

She has served under three principals and seen many changes in teaching styles and curriculums.

The school has been her heart, home, family and part of her life for many years.

Lochner has overseen the school’s tennis team and was a member of Jacaranda House.

She has organised and accompanied pupils on more than 35 school tours and ran many charity drives.

The school’s Kathy Blume said Lochner was a great event planner and expert floral arranger.

“She never felt the need to be in the spotlight but always found ways to support anyone running an event, helping behind the scenes and ensuring nothing was overlooked.

“Never having children of her own, she selflessly offered her time, energy and expertise to help pupils grow.

“She provided a quality education, support and encouragement to pupils and demanded respect and good manners, helping pupils to become well-rounded individuals,” said Blume.

Lochner will be missed for her sense of humour and always treating everyone with respect.
