Stanley Road in Primrose is a cause for concern

Another driver Shaun Mathews said when he passes the area, he grows increasingly concerned about the recyclers' safety.

Motorists once again are concerned about the recycling activities on Stanley Road in Primrose.

In April and May, GCN reported on the concerns and frustrations of motorists who frequently use this road.

Motorists are yet again expressing the same concerns about the recycling activities on the side of the road posing a risk to drivers.

Motorists complain that recyclers burn rubbish causing smoke, which is an additional distraction to drivers. There also seem to be more recyclers coming into the space and that means more rubbish.

GCN visited the area once again to check and found it riddled with rubbish as recyclers were sorting cardboard, plastic bottles, and glass.

Sfiso Nkosi who frequently uses the road, said the situation needs to get under control.

“In the morning, we are sometimes in a rush and you pass as the recyclers are pulling and pushing the trolleys across the road.

“You have no choice but to wait. You need to be vigilant or you will end up hitting someone,” said Nkosi.

He said he understands it is their income but it poses a danger.

“A main road is not an ideal spot to do any recycling. There is so much going on and it can lead to an accident,” said Nkosi.

Another driver Shaun Mathews said when he passes the area, he grows increasingly concerned about the recyclers’ safety.

“They are on the edge of the road and even the trolleys end up on the road and it is filthy,” said Mathews.

Recycling also seems to encourage illegal dumping. The whole area has turned into a dumping site.
