Tedstoneville residents left frustrated due to lack of power

The city must urgently address the escalating power issues.

The non-delivery of services has become the norm for residents.

Tedstoneville resident Sandra Ludik has had no power for 15 days and counting and said residents are frustrated.

“We do not understand what is going on. A few houses do not have power and we don’t know the reason.

“We’ve logged complaints and even received reference numbers, but no action has been taken,” said Ludik.

She said reporting the outage and obtaining reference numbers did not resolve the matter.

“It is sad how the municipality takes its time to serve residents.

“Not having power increases the potential for crime and puts residents in danger, but that does not matter to them,” said Ludik.

She said they had to visit the call centre to check when the municipality would attend to the matter.

“We also went to the council office as a group of residents to show the seriousness of the matter and how it has affected residents.

“Only then did the CoE promise to take action and restore the power, but restoration is temporary,” said Ludik.
She said CoE has not returned to correct the temporary fix.

“This is not the first time they made a temporary fix. My neighbour has sat for almost two years with a temporary fix that is constantly causing problems for her.

“She was accused a few times of illegal connections, and that, as residents, is worrying when the city is capable of doing such jobs and putting people at risk,” said Ludik.

“The number of issues we have regarding power is concerning. My power goes off now and then, and when we report it, the complaint ends up being closed, but the matter is not resolved,” said Ludik.

Germiston City News sent a request for comment to the CoE but, at the time of going to print, had received no reply.
