Klopperpark Clinic hosts open day

"People need to take away the stigma and test to know their status.”

Klopperpark Clinic hosted its annual open day on November 1.

The event aimed at educating the public about services available at the clinic.

Other stakeholders like Ke Ready, banking institutions, Bedfordview CPF, Bedfordview Victim Empowerment Center (VEC) and IEC were part of the event.

Chief nurse Nare Kgole emphasised that it is important that the public is familiar with the clinic staff and public health services offered.

“It is important to remove the stigma associated with public health services. We understand that in these tough economic times, many people cannot afford medical aid and private health care services,” said Kgole.

“The Klopperpark Clinic offers comprehensive primary healthcare treatment packages at no cost,” said Kgole.

 

TEARS had a table with craft protesting against GBV.

“The staff has volunteered to start work an hour earlier to help reduce hours spent at the clinic by patients.”
Ward 92 Clr Kade Guerrero made use of the services offered on the day.

He said that drug abuse is a problem in the ward and that codeine, a well-known concoction of soft drinks and cough syrup, is currently dominating the streets.

“The schools in the ward are now starting to report cases related to this drug.”

Residents also receive education on teenage pregnancy.

“There have been reports of 13-year-old female students becoming pregnant in our schools. The clinic also provides dietary guidelines for adults and infants,” said Guerreiro.

According to the Bedfordview Victim Empowerment Center, Sizwe Secondary School is home to their newest satellite office.

“Next year will mark the official opening of the satellite office. We are requesting participation from the community. They will be provided with the training,” said Nonhlanhla Makhoba, a VEC representative.
