SAA Museum revives historical rugby moment at Rand Airport

The very Boeing 747 aircraft that captivated the nation back then is now housed and preserved at the SAA Aviation Museum.

As Rugby World Cup finals fever strikes the nation once again, the South African Airways Aviation Museum at Rand Airport in Germiston, will relive the 1995 magic with the famous Boeing 747-244 Super B Lebombo.

The aeroplane soared overhead the Ellis Park Stadium prior to the commencement of the 1995 RWC final against the All Blacks.

The very Boeing 747 aircraft that captivated the nation back then is now housed and preserved at the SAA Aviation Museum.

 

This graceful giant still sports the motivational message “Good luck Bokke” on its underside as was seen by the adoring crowds during the magnificent super low altitude flypast over the stadium under the command of the late Capt Laurie Kay on June 24, 1995.

On October 28, 28 years later, rugby fans will be able to relive that 1995 moment by joining the Museum’s RWC event under the wings of the iconic Boeing 747.
