Mayor to announce changes to mayoral committee

The city is currently governed by an ANC-EFF coalition with both parties holding five portfolios each in the mayoral committee.

Clr Leshaka Manamela is now head of environment and waste management services while Clr Thembi Msane has been appointed MMC for water, sanitation and energy. They took oath of office this afternoon in Germiston.

Executive mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Clr Sivuyile Ngodwana, is set to announce changes to the composition of the Mayoral Committee on October 9 at 14:00.

This comes with growing concerns regarding service delivery in Ekurhuleni.

Germiston City News recently reported that the ANC in Ekurhuleni expressed its concerns with the current state of the municipality’s finances at a media briefing on September 28 in Germiston. Speaking at the briefing, ANC caucus whip Jongizizwe Dlabathi said the city is close to bankruptcy.

“The changes are to improve service delivery and strengthen good governance in the city. The updated committee will consist of experienced and skilled individuals who will work together to address the challenges facing the city and provide the best possible services to its residents,” said Ngodwana.
