Reports suggest that an explosion in the gas pipeline caused the incident.
Nana Radebe-Kgiba, Joburg EMS spokesperson has confirmed that the fire has been put out.
She added that Egoli Gas officials were working close to the building when it caught fire.
Avoid the intersections of Bertha and De Korte, Bertha and Jorrisen and Bertha and Nelson Mandela Bridge as these are closed off.
Motorists are advised to use De Beer, Smit, Jorrisen and Biccard as alternatives.
