Sasol TechnoX inspires local youth with innovation

“We are here to advise that through STEAM they can be innovative and still be in business and we can guide them on how to go about getting there."

Sasol TechnoX, a science, technology, engineering, arts, maths (STEAM) innovation, celebrated its 21st birthday on August 15.

The exhibition aims to inspire learners to explore the exciting array of disciplines and career opportunities offered by science, mathematics and technology.

African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), an organisation servicing the Germiston area, was also part of the exhibition to showcase the service they provide for the youth.

AfCFTA was part of the exhibition under the AfCFTA Young Entrepreneurs Foundation.

“Several youngsters asked questions about entrepreneurship, how to go about developing their ideas into reality and many asked for guidance and mentorship.

“This exposed us to the lack of entrepreneurial education in our school system thus graduates are trained to be job seekers and not problem-solving job creators that can contribute to the economic growth of our country,” said Lerato Mokoena, the national coordinator of AfCFTA.

“We are here to advise that through STEAM they can be innovative and still be in business and we can guide them on how to go about getting there.

“We educated young minds about how they can develop STEAM skills, the importance of STEAM in the future and the need for constant innovation in the world,” said Mokoena.

She said the foundation will be conducting roadshow events in various cities within the coming weeks to educate more young minds across SA about entrepreneurship in the lead-up to the Young Entrepreneurs Summit in October.
