Help local athlete pursue studies in the US

“I have accomplished a lot in my sporting career. To name a few, I have earned the right to represent Gauteng on the national stage multiple times."

Siyabonga Mbatha, a resident of Katlehong, has been offered a scholarship to study in the United States.
He, however, needs money to pay for his travel expenses.

He started his long-distance running career at a young age.

“I have accomplished a lot in my sporting career. To name a few, I have earned the right to represent Gauteng on the national stage multiple times.

I recently received an invitation to attend Monroe College, in New York, as a student athlete on a scholarship to pursue my education and athletic career.

“The scholarship pays for everything except my visa expenses and plane ticket. I need financial support,” said Mbatha.

He said Monroe College will enable him to realise his goals of excelling as a student athlete and earning a high degree that will enhance his future.

Siyabonga Mbatha is appealing to the community to help pay for his travel expenses so he can pursue his education abroad.

“Studying abroad will be a privilege since it will enable me to share the information and experience I have gained in both school and athletics with my home country and community,” said Mbatha.

“My goal in life is to be known as one of the top athletes, compete on the biggest platforms as a professional athlete, and mentor up-and-coming athletes.”

“I have to come up with a total of R30 000. Your contributions, regardless of size, would be much appreciated and will have a significant impact. I am supposed to be there on August 22 even though the semester/fall there starts on September 11.

“The following expenses will be covered by the R30 000: service charges (R6 800), visa fees (R3 600), and plane tickets (R16 000).

On request, I would be more than happy to give additional information regarding the scholarship as well as any supporting documentation.
