Germiston-based Hawks Economic Protected Resources officers arrested a man (43) on June 23 after a search of his luggage revealed that he was in possession of lion bones.

The man was about to board a flight to Vietnam from OR Tambo International Airport where he was arrested.
Police officers also confiscated foreign currency, a cellphone and two passports.
During the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that it is the carcasses of five lions.
The man was charged with illegal dealing in wildlife, possession of lion bones and contravening the National Environmental Management Biodiversity Act (NEMBA).
