Primrose CPF concerned about lack of police resources

Chairperson Tracy Enslin revealed that the CPF has been raising these concerns for over five years without resolution, prompting an appeal to provincial and national authorities for intervention.

The Primrose CPF has raised urgent concerns about the lack of resources at the Primrose Police Station, impacting the ability to maintain law and order in the area.

Chairperson Tracy Enslin revealed that the CPF has been raising these concerns for over five years without resolution, prompting an appeal to provincial and national authorities for intervention.

She emphasised that the police are overwhelmed and unable to be on duty 24/7, resulting in a lack of law enforcement, particularly in the suburbs and informal settlements.

Enslin highlighted the CPF’s close collaboration with local law enforcement, but resource shortages have demoralised them.

Staffing, patrol vehicle shortages, and a backlog of cases have strained police operations.

“Our few police vans are often tied up in the informal settlements, leaving no visible policing in the suburbs.
“Response times for incidents can take up to three hours,” she explained.

Primrose, home to over 166 000 people, has outgrown its satellite police station, which was adequate before the area’s expansion.

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masando responded to an inquiry, stating, “The police will look at the concerns raised by the Primrose CPF and address them with the relevant stakeholders.”
