Germiston SAPS launches Youth Desk

The initiative aims to inspire young people, particularly those on a gap year or seeking opportunities, to volunteer and contribute fresh perspectives to the ongoing fight against crime.

The Germiston SAPS is calling on local youth to join their newly established Youth Crime Prevention Desk.

This initiative encourages young individuals to engage actively in identifying the root causes of youth violence and crime while collaborating to develop social crime prevention strategies for their communities.

Sergeant Mpho Mokgwawa, the station’s social crime prevention co-ordinator, shared insights from a recent training session that saw 22 participants in attendance.

Mokgwawa emphasized the importance of youth involvement, noting that when police officers visit schools, learners often relate better to young members, making discussions on crucial topics like drug use, alcohol abuse, and criminal activity more effective.

Young individuals interested in joining the Youth Crime Prevention Desk are encouraged to visit the Germiston SAPS station and request to meet with Mokgwawa for more information.
