Six suspects killed in cash-in-transit robbery attempt in Germiston

Six suspects died in the Germiston CBD after an attempted robbery.

The SAPS fatally shot six suspects during a cash-in-transit robbery attempt in Germiston on September 7.

One suspect was critically injured and taken to a nearby hospital after a shootout between the robbers and the police.

The suspects, targeting a G4S security vehicle, used a silver Hyundai ix35.

This rifle is no longer on the streets of Ekurhuleni.

Police recovered four handguns, an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.

In a separate high-density operation across Ekurhuleni from September 6 to September 8, law enforcement arrested 355 individuals for various crimes.

Authorities also seized 10 illegal firearms and shut down 20 illegal shebeens.

Ten illegal firearms were taken off the streets during a recent SAPS operation.

“During the operation, 182 suspects were arrested, including 105 for contact crimes, 45 for major offences, 19 for GBV and 12 for property crimes,” said Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the Ekurhuleni district communications officer.

The Ekurhuleni district commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, praised the police for their swift response and thanked the community for co-operating in combating crime.
