Rest a While celebrates 58th anniversary
The centre faced considerable difficulties, particularly in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, necessitating cost-cutting measures to maintain operations.
The Rest a While Service Centre in Primrose commemorated its 58th anniversary with a vibrant celebration featuring live musical performances, on September 13.
The non-profit organisation, dedicated to supporting the elderly community, offers a space for socialising, dining, and participating in games and knitting programmes.

The centre manager, Trudy Carreira, highlighted the significance of the event, noting the essential support received from local businesses.
“Accumulo Consulting generously refurbished our centre, including painting and repairing our kitchen roof, which had deteriorated over time,” Carreira explained.
Local business OK Store Sunnyridge contributed to the celebrations by providing cakes and sweets, while AVBOB provided entertainment, with Ray Edwards performing for the attendees.
“These gestures mean a lot to us as we continue facing challenges in keeping our doors open. For the past two years, we have not received a government subsidy, which had a significant impact,” Carreira said.

Despite these hurdles, the community has rallied in support.
“We host fundraising events and have introduced new menus to generate additional income,” Carreira noted.
“We also offer dance classes, bingo, and knitting sessions every Tuesday.”
With 19 years of service at the organisation, Carreira remains optimistic about the future, believing that brighter days are ahead for the Rest a While Service Centre.
