Germiston siblings celebrate nominations for national recognition

Siblings Oyama and Ndumiso Prince Mashazi are celebrating their recent nominations for the 2024 Ukhonukamva National Gospel Music Awards.

Nine-year-old Oyama has been nominated for Best Author for her book, A Boy Who Loved Candy, while Prince is up for Best Electronic Music Artist, recognised for his gospel-inspired music.

Their mother, Thuli Mashazi, a published author herself, expressed her pride in her children’s accomplishments, emphasising that the nominations reflect their hard work and passion.

“Prince creates his rap music using downloaded beats, and his lyrics are deeply rooted in his Christian faith,” Thuli shared.

“Oyama was thrilled to receive her nomination, and it’s a particularly special moment as this is the first time they’ve been recognised in this way.”

Thuli also noted the personal significance of these nominations, saying, “As a parent, it feels like the world is acknowledging my efforts in raising them.

“We encourage the community to support them by voting. To vote for Oyama, SMS ‘KAMVA 050’, and for Prince, SMS ‘KAMVA 081’ to 45633. We hope to bring these awards home.”
