MMC encourages women to get empowered with trading permits

MMC emphasises the importance of informal trading as a crucial element of economic development.

Ald Nomadlozi Nkosi, MMC for Developmental Planning and Real Estate, encouraged women to seize the opportunity to register and obtain trading permits from the city.

Speaking at the Informal Traders Summit at Rabasotho Community Hall on August 14, Nkosi emphasised the importance of informal trading as a crucial element of economic development in Ekurhuleni and the nation.

The summit, part of the Women’s Month celebrations, highlighted the city’s commitment to supporting informal traders.

“We are streamlining the permit process to ensure you can trade with dignity, security, and stability,” Nkosi stated.

“These permits are not just paperwork; they represent a gateway to a better future. They provide a legal avenue to trade and access to support services, training, and resources designed to enhance your business.”

Nkosi also mentioned the city is allocating land to aspiring farmers, with 6 000 applications received.

“This underscores the need for all informal traders and small businesses to register,” she said.

“By doing so, you will open doors to numerous opportunities and ensure you can engage in business with the city effectively.”

The MMC’s call to action aims to empower informal traders and small businesses, facilitating their growth and integration into the formal economy.
