Life Roseacres Hospital shines spotlight on intimate health

She said intimate health is one of many factors that can lead to depression and low self-esteem.

Dr Relebogile Sekele, a passionate advocate for women’s health, particularly in the field of intimate health, recently led a cosmetic gynaecology information session at Life Roseacres Hospital.

The event, held on August 14 as part of the hospital’s Women’s Month celebrations, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of intimate health.

Sekele, who specialises in gynaecology, obstetrics, and now cosmetic gynaecology, shared her journey and the significance of this emerging field.

During an interview with Germiston City News, Sekele explained how her patients’ concerns about their reproductive and sexual organs inspired her to specialize in cosmetic gynaecology.

“As a gynaecologist, I consult with women of all ages and backgrounds, and I noticed how many had concerns that I couldn’t address at the time.

“I saw a need for more specialised care, which led me to research and eventually specialise in intimate health and vaginal cosmetic issues,” she said.

Sekele emphasised that cosmetic gynaecology is a broad field that aims to enhance the overall well-being and quality of life for women.

“Issues like urinary incontinence, recurrent vaginal infections, vaginal dryness, and atrophy can be difficult for women to discuss, and they may not always receive the help they need.

“Cosmetic gynaecology offers non-surgical solutions to these problems, improving women’s comfort and confidence,” she explained.

She highlighted the psychological impact of intimate health issues, noting that they can lead to depression and low self-esteem, and even strain intimate relationships.

“If a woman is unhappy with her reproductive and sexual organs, it can affect her mental health and her relationships. These procedures empower women and restore their confidence,” Sekele added.

The range of services Sekele now offers includes vaginal rejuvenation, post-delivery rehabilitation, treatment of stress urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness, recurrent vaginal infections, and more.

She expressed her satisfaction with the hospital’s support for these services.

“I’ve been with Life Roseacres for three years, and when I introduced the idea of offering cosmetic gynaecology, it was warmly received. This shows the hospital’s commitment to a holistic wellness approach,” she said.

Janene de Beer, the hospital’s marketing and communications representative, echoed Sekele’s sentiments, emphasising the significance of cosmetic gynaecology in enhancing women’s health.

“Cosmetic gynaecology is not just about aesthetics; it addresses both functional and aesthetic concerns, contributing to a woman’s overall well-being.

“We are excited about what this means for our patients,” said De Beer.

Sekele concluded by encouraging women to take advantage of the services now available to address issues that may have been causing discomfort or distress.

“Cosmetic gynaecology offers benefits that go beyond appearance, focusing on comfort, confidence, and overall wellness.

“Whether it’s relief from discomfort, aesthetic improvements, or enhanced sexual satisfaction, these procedures provide valuable resources for women looking to feel their best,” she said.
