Help local police identify body of unknown man

“Shortly before his death, Jimmy was admitted into Edenvale Hospital. However, he was discharged.”

The Edenvale SAPS seeks assistance to identify a body found in the Eastleigh area at the end of June.

The body, found near the corner of Main Road and Central Avenue on June 26, is awaiting identification at Germiston Mortuary.

According to the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Frans Madibana of Edenvale Detective Services, the deceased’s name was either Jimmy van Lilieveld or Jimmy Lilieveld.

His nickname was Shorty, and he was believed to be a member of the homeless community.

Madibana said it is believed Jimmy died from the cold.

“Shortly before his death, Jimmy was admitted to Edenvale Hospital. However, he was discharged.”

“A file was opened at the hospital, but it does not contain much information, and the fingerprints we sent to Pretoria did not return any results,” said Madibana.

Jimmy was between 30 and 40 years old when he died.

Madibana said police believed Jimmy had a brother residing in the greater Boksburg area, but the address was unknown.

“We are relying on the community or persons who may have known Jimmy to contact the police so that we can identify him.”

“His body is at Germiston Morgue and needs to be identified.”
