Belgravia Bowling Club seeks new members

Belgravia Bowling Club will host a Women’s Day tournament in support of POWA.

The Belgravia Bowling Club, renowned as the premier club in the Johannesburg Bowling Association (JBA), invited new players to join its ranks.

As the club prepares for the Women’s Day tournament to support POWA, they were eager to welcome individuals of all ages and backgrounds to experience the joy of bowling and be part of a thriving community.

The event will start at 09:00 and continue throughout the day.

The club has been prominent in the JBA for 117 years.

Club chairperson Desmond Gardner said they offered a playing environment second to none, with top-notch facilities, well-maintained greens, and a vibrant social atmosphere that set them apart from other clubs.

“We are not just a bowling club. We are a close-knit community that embraces diversity and camaraderie.

“Many people say we are the number one bowling club in the country.

“Whether you are an experienced bowler or a newcomer to the sport, our club provides a supportive environment for all to enjoy and improve their skills,” he said.

The club welcomes 80-year-olds and teenagers alike.

“Bowling is not just a physical sport but also an excellent mental exercise,” he added.

Apart from its sporting achievements, the club prides itself on being a hub of social interaction, fostering friendships, and providing an outlet for people to connect and combat loneliness or anxiety.

The club accommodates 97 players, while their social club, Fit 2000, caters to 60 members who do five and 10km runs every Thursday.

Gardner said they wanted to expand their footprint in Edenvale and Bedfordview.

They meet on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 09:00 at their clubhouse on 56 Florence Avenue, Bedfordview.

“We have a lot of facilities and can accommodate other people, for example, a mountain bike club or anyone who needs a bit of a club atmosphere to encourage their members to socialise and enjoy life,” he said.
