Management of a local shopping do their bit for Mandela Day

Through July Shoppers are encouraged to spend 67 minutes putting together pre-packed meals made up of dry soup ingredients.

Members of Greenstone Shopping Centre’s management, NPO RySky and the community united when they set out to make Jars of Hope for those in need.

On Mandela Day, the group came together at the shopping centre to create 200 jars of hope.

Centre’s marketing manager Jacqui Bloom said the project formed part of the centre’s Meals 4 Mandela Day initiative.

Those who assisted in making jars of hope for the Meals For Mandela Day Initiative on July 18.

Through July, shoppers are encouraged to spend 67 minutes putting together pre-packed meals made up of dry soup ingredients.

This will be done to feed families in need.

Sister of Jackie Allen, Julie Reilly-Day, assisting granddaughter Mia Peacock cut some ribbon for the jars of hope.

On July 18, founder of Rysky Foundation Annamaria Lechki said the goal was to create 200 jars of hope.

She said the shopping centre donated ingredients to fill 150 containers while House of Style Models donated ingredients for 50 containers.

Tins of tomato and onion mix were also donated to the initiative.

Each jar of hope can feed four people.

Annamaria, a close friend of the late Edenvale stalwart and founder of House of Style Models Jackie Allen, said Jackie’s legacy lives on.

“Although Jackie is not here, she is a big part of this and we miss her terribly.”

Annamaria said at the end of July Rysky will collect and distribute the donations to those in need.
