This was to address illegal dumping and trash on the street corners.

“It is not acceptable for contractors and small businesses to dump construction materials on our streets and in our parks.

This illegal dumping is not only unattractive and unhealthy, but it also demonstrates a lack of respect for our community and its citizens,” said Janet Gerretsen.

Residents and businesses call for a cleaner community.

“A few groups of residents in our communities have taken the initiative to clean up our parks, overgrown sidewalks, and other unsightly areas.

“Residents can help by donating funds to compensate unemployed volunteers and for equipment, or by joining one of the organisations for a few hours over the weekend,” said Gerretsen.

“Some of the groups are Rebel with a Cause which cleaned up Howie Circle in Sunnyridge, and they are also looking after Meppen Park.

“Fighters for Upliftment have been working around Northridge, Wesel Roads, Korhaan and Lucy streets,” said Gerretsen.

The groups focus on Wychwood, Primrose Hill, Primrose, and the surrounding regions.

Ackerman’s Pharmacy’s Primrose Business Forum has been cleaning Rietfontein and Beaconsfield roads five days a week, primarily focusing on illegal dumping locations on certain street corners, as well as pruning parks and mowing pavements, among other things.

“These initiatives are great for building community spirit, getting to know your neighbours, and making us proud of the areas we live in.”

Gerretsen praised the businesses and residents who are already active, as well as the Ekurhuleni waste department for assisting in the collection and cleaning of the gathered and cleaned rubbish.
