Sizwe Secondary School receives new library

Ward 92 Clr Kade Guerreiro handed a new and functional library to Sizwe Secondary School in Elandsfontein.
The Sizwe Library received 3 500 donated books.

The school is the second to receive a functional library after Buhle Park High School, also in the ward.

Klopperpark Primary School will be the third school to receive a library.

Ward 92 Clr Kade Guerreiro hands over the new library to Sizwe Secondary School.

Guerreiro said a container was sent to the Klopperpark school, and a second one would soon follow.

“The primary school has a bigger space to fit two containers. We want to ensure reading takes place because children must start reading early,” said Guerreiro.

“We want to inspire a love for reading, which will help improve their academics and sports.”

Guerreiro and relevant stakeholders also donated sanitary packs worth R2 500.

“Sizwe already started using the library, and learners have given positive feedback.

“We must equip young people with the right tools.

“It is concerning that as one of the densified provinces, we still have schools that do not have libraries or computer centres like Sizwe.

“This is where the Department of Basic Education is failing us.

“As a country, how are we moving towards the 4IR when we still have schools that are unequipped?”

Guerreiro said that the learners at Sizwe decorated the library with their hand prints.

“They dipped their hands into paint and decorated the wall.

“We are trying to ensure that all schools in the ward have all the basics.

“iThembelihle LSEN School previously received a water tank, and three schools in the ward now have feeding schemes.”

Guerreiro applauded Clr Jill Humphreys, Michele Clarke, the Rotary Humanitarian Centre, Jack’s Paint Bedford Centre, CTS Car Towing Services, the Bedfordview community and the Ward 92 community for their assistance with the projects.
