Germiston taps ran dry again

Ward 36 and 92 councillors will submit a memorandum to Rand Water head office on March 9 due to ongoing water outages in Germiston areas.

Taps again ran dry on March 8.

“The Churchill water reservoir in Dawnview and Northridge/Windsor Street reservoir in Sunnyridge are not receiving water from Rand Water,” said Ward 92 Clr Kade Guerriero.

He said this is the third water outage in both wards since the start of 2023.

“Rand Water is failing to maintain its infrastructure. Waters cuts have been problematic since 2014,” said Guerriero.

“From February 23 to March 3, residents of wards 92 and 36 were without water due to vandalism at Rand Water infrastructure in Alberton. And they are again without water,” said Guerriero.

“City of Ekurhuleni will have roving water tankers. Parts of the water network were dry for almost 10 days,” he said.

Rand Water stated. “Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch water treatment plant that is fed through Eskom’s substation had a power failure that affected engine room four which supplies all booster stations.”

Areas mostly affected include Germiston.
