Thami Khumalo, from Katlehong, said he used a taxi to join the labour queue as early as 6:00.

He raised concerns about residents not being prioritised despite their desperate need for services.

Services were interrupted in Germiston CBD as civil workers took to the streets demanding a 10% salary increase.

“We wasted our taxi fares to come here in the hopes of getting services. I am here because I wanted to process my UIF claims,” said Khumalo.

“It is my first time coming to the Germiston office, but they have already given me a bad impression,” he said.

“If I were to come here again I would have to spend more money to get here,” said Khumalo.
