Youth empowered through performing arts in Klopperpark

Eclipse Unplugged, a youth-based organisation in Klopperpark, aims to empower the youth through performing arts.

Ntando ‘King’ Lupalule, is the founder and a dancer who is passionate about working with young people and empowering them through the arts.

Ntando said the aim is to keep children off the streets and away from poor social behaviours.

“The plan is to capacitate them with skills to make better decisions that do not result in teenage pregnancy, smoking, drinking and substance abuse,” said Ntando.

“In June we were preparing for the Youth UpRising Festival at Klopper Park Primary School, an event hosted by Kloppies Flea Market.

“We had several practice sessions prior to the event. The children loved coming to practice sessions and enjoyed what we did,” he said.

“It was then that it was suggested that we create dance sessions,” he said.

“The ultimate goal is to have some of these children pursuing a professional career in the arts.

“We have contemporarily professional dancer who will be coming to teach us contemporary style,” said Ntando.
