Kramer (94) was the first physician to admit the first patient at the old Roseacres Clinic in 1963. He served for 60 years.

His colleagues, friends and associates gathered to celebrate the times they had with him at the hospital.

Psychiatrist at the hospital and lifelong friend Dr Elizabeth Borkowska presented a heart-warming speech as she shed tears when talking about special moments shared with Kramer.

“Since I’ve known Kramer, he has always been a caring person. He cares about the people he works with and his patients.

Dr Elizabeth Borkowska gave a heart-warming speech at Dr Sydney Kramer’s farewell.

“He proved to be a good friend when I had my twins and every time I saw him he would always ask me how my children were doing. This lasted for 20 years,” said an emotional Borkowska.

She added that Kramer’s patients will always asked about him or look for him first when visiting the hospital.

Adding humour to the emotional farewell, Kramer gave thanks for years of working at the hospital even when he had to take a break for eight years due to an accident at the age of 65.

He refused to retire after that and later returned to the hospital to continue caring for his patients until recently.

Manager of hospital Judy van Zyl presented Kramer with a certificate of appreciation for serving at the hospital for so many years and bid him a farewell into his retirement.
