Ekurhuleni police catch vehicle badge thief caught

A male suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen goods on corner of Gladiator and Albatross streets.

A 43-year-old male suspect was arrested on September 14 on charges of possession of suspected stolen goods.

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, the suspect was arrested on the corner of Gladiator and Albatross streets.

“Kempton Park Police Crime Prevention Unit was busy with stop-and-search operations when they received information about a suspect allegedly involved in a series of theft of motor vehicle badges and wheel covers within the CBD,” said Mtshali.

“During their patrol at corner Gladiator and Albatross streets, they spotted a suspect fitting the description given.

“The suspect who was carrying a bag was searched and the bag he was carrying had different kinds of vehicles badges such Toyota, Nissan, Isuzu, Chevrolet, VW, Hyundai, Mercedes Benz and Mitsubishi wheel covers as well as a plier and broken wiper.”

Mtshali said the suspect was unable to account for how he purchased the goods.

“The suspect was then arrested and detained at the Kempton Park Police Station pending his appearance in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of suspected stolen goods.

“Colonel Lesetja Manewa, acting station commander at Kempton Park SAPS, applauded the crime prevention unit for the breakthrough and hopes the suspect will be linked to several incidents where theft out of motor vehicles was reported.”
