Local athlete aims for national colours in ringball

Vione started playing ringbal from an early age but surprised her mother when she joined her school team this year.

Vione Van Der Merwe (11) aims to dominate her sport and academic life as she recently received her provincial colours for school ringball.

Boasting a host of scrolls on her primary school blazer, the enthusiastic youngster plans to be the head girl of her school at Laerskool Oosterkruin.

“Currently I’m in grade five and my overall average is 95% but I hope to get a 99% soon,” said the young hard-working primary school learner.

Van Der Merwe has participated in a couple of junior leagues locally and was also selected to play for the Germiston Dragons at Hoërskool Goudrif.

“Currently I am playing for my school team, Laerskool Oosterkruin, and we recently won the Jukskei league.

“Soon we’ll be playing in another league at Camp Discovery,” she said.

The goal-orientated young girl enjoys being with the team and loves the sport.
