Local businesses on board for library project

“The two schools with their growing number of learners had no libraries. We now have local businesses to help in the project."

Jacks Paint and Warehouse from Bedford Centre donated paint to the ongoing Ward 92 library project facilitated by ward councillor Kade Guerreiro.

Guerreiro received the donation last week and it will assist in the project’s continued growth with the help of local businesses.

It was previously reported about his hopes for fully functioning libraries at Klopperpark Primary and Elandsfontein Secondary schools.

This was followed by two containers from Ward 20, shipped to the two schools and the first phase of the project kicked off.

Guerreiro said that the two abandoned containers on Riley Road were to be repurposed as libraries for the two schools.

“The two schools with their growing number of learners had no libraries. We now have local businesses to help in the project,” he said.

“CTS transported the containers to the schools. Jacks Paint donated the paint and Rotary will donate books.

“We are still looking for shelves, windows and transportation of another container, as well as solar lights, and furniture to make the libraries look warm and inviting,” he said.

Though the project is halfway complete, Guerreiro said both schools have security to look after the solar panels and the libraries once completed.

“Once the project is done, these schools will have libraries that can be accessed even during load-shedding,” said Guerreiro.
