Assessment delays reopening of Ekurhuleni’s public swimming pools

Usually, the City’s pools close for the winter season and reopen on the first day of September to coincide with Spring Day.

The expected September 1 reopening of the City of Ekurhuleni’s public swimming pools has been put on hold, pending an assessment of the facilities’ water quality to determine compliance with the set standards.

However, the Boksburg North indoor swimming pool is available for galas upon special arrangements.

Normally, the City’s pools close for the winter season and reopen on the first day of September to coincide with Spring Day.

But this time, according to the metro, ‘unforeseen circumstances’ has pushed the reopening of pools to an unspecified date’.

“The city is committed to creating a healthy and safe swimming and recreational environment for all users.

“In this regard, the city will endeavour to ensure that the water quality of all our pools is compliant with the safety standards set by Life Saving SA and the aquatics regulatory authorities,” said metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

He said the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture is working around the clock to ensure that the pools are reopened as soon as possible, and he added that the exact reopening dates will be communicated to the public in due course.
