Ekurhuleni attends to the Van Buuren leak

The leak was caused by the corrosion of an old steel water pipe.

A leak identified by concerned community member Margret Rodriguez was reportedly attended to by the City of Ekurhuleni.

This came after Rodriguez brought her concerns about service delivery in Bedfordview to the Bedfordview and Edenvale News in its September 14 edition.

Rodriguez told the NEWS she first reported the leak last July, however, it continued to leak.

CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the leak, located on the pavement of Van Buuren Road near the corner of Harcus Road, was first identified as a sewage leak.

“The leak originated from the city’s main water pipeline in Van Buuren Road,” said Dlamini.

He said the leak was caused by the corrosion of an old steel water pipe.

When questioned about what caused the delay in repairing the leak Dlamini said city officials recently attended to a leak in the vicinity and confirmed the leak is a new matter.

“The city’s team did not initially see the leak.”

“We suspect it might have been covered with leaves at the time,” explained Dlamini.

He said after discovering the location of the leak the matter was attended to on September 13.
