Ekurhuleni residents without power following violent protest

According to CoE a substation was set alight; these areas are affected by the power supply interruption.

Several parts of Thembisa are currently without power after a substation was set alight during a protest in the area on Monday (August 1).

“While the city is aware of the current situation regarding the power in the area, unfortunately our technicians are unable to attend to the problem as the situation in the township remains volatile – thus putting their lives at risk,” Zweli Dlamini, metro spokesperson, said in a statement issued by City of Ekurhuleni (CoE).

According to Dlamini, areas affected include: Parts of Thembisa 1; Clayville; Olifantsfontein;
Winnie Mandela; and Birch Acres Extension 23 to 35.

“The city commits to attend to the outage as soon as the situation on the ground becomes stable and the safety of the workers can be guaranteed,” Dlamini added.
