To do this, the forum established a committee to represent the diverse concerns of the forum.

The forum is committed to bringing businesses and residents together, improving the local economy and ensuring the return of many who have left the area.

“The unfortunate truth is that Germiston, once one of the major financial centres of Ekurhuleni, has been plagued by ongoing issues such as safety and crime, failing infrastructure, cable theft and vandalism.

“This forum has been long overdue and will enable businesses to work with the City of Ekurhuleni to resolve issues.

In this way, city officials will have the support they need, while being held accountable,” said GBF chairperson Heidi Searle.

In its arsenal aimed at bettering business in Germiston will be the Streetnews App, developed by resident Thinus van Rooyen.

“This app will assist and facilitate the GBF’s support local initiative,” Searle said.

One of the features of the app will be the Employ Me option.

“The goal of this initiative is to bridge the gap between local businesses and jobless individuals in our community by promoting local employment opportunities,” said Juanita Horn.

To ensure the success of the GBF, all local businesses have been encouraged to join and participate in the forum.
“There is power in numbers,” said Searle.
