Local artist releases new music

“Music has been part of me since a young age but I first fell in love with poetry."

Yanga Nxele, popularly known by his stage name Yanga ManNMZ, from Makause informal settlement, is set to release his second EP.

The hip-hop sensation will release his long-awaited EP, titled 2003 Flows The Narrator, on July 2.

Following the success of his first EP, released in 2018 and titled Read between the lines, the Kwa-Zulu Natal originator is confident that his latest project will take him to new heights.

“I grew up listening to motivational speakers and reading motivational quotes and messages,” said Nxele.

“I started to believe in the power of words. Words have the power to change the world,” he said.

“Music has been part of me since a young age but I first fell in love with poetry.

“In poetry, it’s important that you know how to put your words together. Poetry and music became my form of expression.

“In 2015 my friends were involved with drug use and other risky behaviour. The only way I could reach them was through music,” said Nxele.

He started recording himself using a cellphone.

“In 2018 I met with music producer Hopeson ‘Mr One’ Dzampana from Malawi. We worked together and released a single called Legendary,” said Nxele.

“The single was well received. I performed around Germiston. The EP then followed after the single, with five tracks. We recorded the EP in one day,” said Nxele.

He has collaborated with Angel the vocalist on the song My hot spot.

Sonneke Pypers, known by her stage name as MystiQ the Mysterious, has played a pivotal role in Nxele’s music career.

“She taught me the business side of music. I didn’t know I can generate revenue without being signed to a record label,” he said.

“I am now a registered artist at online music stores because of MystiQ,” said Nxele.
