GCN spoke to upcoming player Happy Tyelembola about playing for the GCBC first team and her plans for the future.

The 15-year Cladelton International College learner said she never had an interest in sports, but when she visited the club and saw a few games decided to sign up for the team.

“I have not played any other sport besides basketball.

“This sport has taught me so much in a short period. I have learned to be more disciplined and focused. Most importantly, I enjoy the game,” said Happy.

The young player said her teammates inspire and motivate her to improve and perform her best.
“As players, we mostly look to famous players, but my favourite player is my teammate Ofentse Mogapi,” said Happy.

She said since she started playing, she has noticed how women’s basketball teams don’t have enough support and that needs to change.

“Like make many female sports teams, we are not given enough opportunities to showcase what we are capable of.
“We also deserve opportunities and support. In general, basketball needs support as a sport. We don’t have enough resources and equipment,” said Happy.
