CoE has since commented the problem has been resolved.

CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the delay in attending to the matter was because they could not access the area where they needed to work.

“There were some difficulties accessing the area because of illegal mining activity. The blockage has been cleared. Residents can also assist the city by reporting illegal activities to law enforcement agencies,” said Dlamini.

He also said the illegal mining activity has affected some pipes, which means more repairs will be needed.

“The sewer pipe is broken because of illegal mining activity in the area to an extent that all soil covering the pipe and supporting the manhole was completely removed.

“For now, we have cleared the blockage. Repairs to the pipe will begin as soon as the necessary materials are received and thereafter import soil to cover the pipe and support the manhole,” said Dlamini.
