The meeting was attended by the Elsburg SAPS station commander, Vispol commander, communications officer, second-hand goods and liquor co-ordinator, sector managers and CPF executives of Graceland and Egoli.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the crime and service delivery issues in the area.

The community was allowed to give input on the challenges they faced due to the lack of police visibility in the areas.

Elsburg SAPS spokesperson Daphey Phooko said there were issues in the two areas between the police and community.

“There were attacks on the police by the community before in the area, which led to members fearing for their safety. But the meeting was successful because those issues that led to that incident at the time were addressed and the community welcomed and supported working with the police,” said Phooko.

She said the police are happy the community is ready and willing to work with them.

“The impact of the meeting was positive.

“The community was allowed the opportunity to voice their concern and recommit themselves to working with the police to fight against crime,” said Phooko.

The station commander also thanked the community for recommitting and pledging themselves to fight crime.
