This provided an opportunity for the selection of the Gauteng team to represent the province at the upcoming South African Sprint Championships from April 23 to 25 at Lomond Dam in the Western Cape.

The event also doubled as the first 2022 Gauteng Canoe Union league event, and juniors are looking forward to participating in the SA schools League Championship at the end of April.

A Gauteng team reflecting all ages from u-8 through to great grandmasters was identified, and the paddlers are training to challenge the other racers at the interprovincial event.

Kearabetswe Serathi (u-16) and Bert Matruje (u-18) participated in the races.

Matruje was selected for the Gauteng team, having raced in the 200m, 500m and 1 000m races and achieving good positions.
