The Elite Camp, formerly known as the Diamond Athletics Club, have its eyes set on developing and grooming talent that will compete at the upcoming international competitions including the World Athletics Championships (WCH Oregon22), Commonwealth Games 2022 (Birmingham 22) to be held in England, Paris Olympics 2024 and Los Angeles Olympics 2028.

“We have a few athletes who will kick the door down come track and field league meetings. Boys who were 15 years old last year clocked 11 seconds in the 100m run at the Puma Speed Series and Prestige Top 10 and 30 competitions,” said coach John Diamond.

“Steven Sabino jumped 7.29m, setting a new record in the long jump registering a new record at the Top 10 best record list.

“Sanele Shoba, who qualified for ASA Juniors with a jump of 7.67m, is back after a knee injury,” he said.

“New athletes who are identified as rising stars are Tika Shabangu, a long jumper, Louis Mutema and Sanele Tolbadi, who won the long jump in 2019/20, and Simphiwe Mtimkulu and Likho Ndongeni, who are sharpening their teeth for the seniors 200/400m.

“Alexandra Okoye will also be watched, as she made the Puma Speed Series final in 200m G16 at only 14 years old.”
