Bedfordview’s Katrina Sutcliffe teamed up with three local businesses to deliver 50 warm meals to those in need on Christmas day.

The 25-year-old owner of Boss Bakes said that this year she decided to provide those in her community who may be unable to cook their own food with a meal.

“At the last minute I thought I would try to get some local businesses involved,” Katrina said.
She reached out to businesses she had supported to help her make her imitative a success and feed more people.

“I posted on a local Facebook group and immediately the management at Vini’s restaurant in Bedfordview offered to come on board for the catering of the meals and also covered some of the overheads,” Katrina said.
Postnet Eastgate also agreed to join in and provided several festive stickers for the food containers.

Meadowdale based Apple Tree jumped on board and gave Katrina a discount on the vegetables she had bought.

“Vini’s management was kind enough to accommodate my initiative even though they were fully booked for Christmas lunch on the same day.

“I collected all the sealed meals on the morning of Christmas Day, stuck on the stickers and just spent the day driving around the area and surrounds delivering food and cutlery to those in need,” she said.

Recipients included the homeless and informal recyclers.

“The meals were made up of a chicken stew, three vegetables and rice. A massive thank you to my fellow local businesses who offered to be involved at such short notice,” Katrina said.

She said the Covid-19 pandemic had affected many industries.

“I feel appreciative that these businesses generously contributed to this initiative despite the tough times.”
Katrina hopes to do the same again next year with the help of others in the community.
