Dawnview goes big for Halloween

Residents enjoy a night of Halloween Trick or Treat.

Princesses, superheroes, skeletons and little witches were all out and about last Saturday for the Dawnview Home Owners Association’s (DHOA) annual Trick-or-Treat Evening.

October 30 saw a day enjoyed by all as young residents and their families showed up in numbers for the Trick or Treat.

The DHOA entertainment committee put out an invitation earlier in the month and had a good response from the majority of the residents.

“Not everyone participated but all community members kept an eye out for the younger residents who took to the streets in their costumes. We also have rules for this annual event, like not going to houses that were not decorated for Halloween, no littering and respect for all residents,” said Bonita Birch.

The participating houses had incredible decorations, ranging from colourful to spooktacular and downright creepy. Some houses had tricks but all had treats.

“This is always a great way for neighbours to get out and meet one another,” said Howard de Iongh, a resident and committee member.

Quinton Birch, a resident of Dawnview, said with the strict Covid-19 restrictions last year, children missed out on the event.

“This year, we knew the children would welcome the event as a great way to have fun.”

As children were enthusiastically moving from house to house, there was a great sense of community as new residents got to meet their neighbours and interact with others.

Local businesses The Swiss Lady Chocolates and Hampers, Shadow Technologies, The Salt Cellar and Magicave.cloud sponsored prizes for the Best Dressed and Best Décor.

Birch said judges had a difficult decision to make as there were so many excellent costumes.

The winners were Alistair Scholtz (5) who was a pirate with his own ship, Abigail Bayly (10) dressed as Hermione and Eliana Susanna (7) dressed as Harley Quin.

“The McIntosh family won the prize for its fun and engaging decorations. This annual event is about the children having fun, dressing up and most importantly, making memories with their friends and families,” said Birch.
