Garden In a Bag introduced at Rest a While

“Covid-19 pushed everyone out of their comfort zone and exposed the way we do things as people.”

FNB visited Rest a While Service Centre for the Aged in Primsore on October 26.

This was part of its new initiative FNB Care Garden.

“Covid-19 pushed everyone out of their comfort zone and exposed the way we do things as people. Food shortage is an issue and with our care garden, we are teaching people how they can produce their own food, even if they don’t have space for a big garden. They can do it from a plastic bag,” said Belinda Naicker from FNB.

FNB initiated six Garden In a Bag projects with the assistance of Initiate Life.

“We work with Initiate Life Organisation to educate our benefactors how to start the garden from a bag and maintain it. Sometimes, one might not even have enough space to start a garden, but a plastic bag does not take up too much space,” said Naicker.

Gerhard Claassen, founder of Initiate Life, said Garden In a Bag is easy and affordable.

“The space the centre has identified for the garden is not ready for planting, but while we wait for the space to be ready, we planted the seed and prepared it. With Garden In a Bag, you can still grow from it and it’s easy to maintain,” said Claassen.

“We feed several elderly people as a centre and now with this garden, we will be able to also assist those in need in the community,” said Trudy Carreira from Rest a While.
