Nedbank renovates Lambano Sanctuary

“Through this initiative we are really trying to be greater than ourselves, touching the lives of others, and making a difference."

Nedbank has embarked on a CSI project to support the Lambano Sanctuary, a dedicated paediatric medical and hospice facility in Wychwood, Germiston.

The hospice caters for children with any life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses.

The in-patient unit (IPU) consists of 16 beds and is run by 22 trained, experienced and dedicated medical staff.

Imbi Evenhuis, PR and project manager, said they also serve the community with a step-down facility that looks after little patients who have been discharged from the hospital and where the parents (if any) cannot cope with their care at home.

Due to the pandemic, the home has not had as many volunteers.

The team has, therefore, set out to create a home-like environment that is comfortable for the children and to assist with the basic needs of the facility.

“Every month we have been focusing on a different section of the home and we are attempting to execute on as many of the requirements needed,” Evenhuis said.

“Our team has received seed funding of R7 500, which we have used very carefully on certain items that needed to be bought. We have also been relying on family and friends to support where possible in the form of time and donations.

“Through this initiative we are trying to be greater than ourselves, touching the lives of others, and making a difference.”

Evenhuis added they are still busy with some of the activities, such as painting a mural in the foyer of the home, laying out a vegetable garden in front of the home and upgrading the children’s rooms with new bedding and décor items.
