iThemba supports young stars

Local footballers supported

iThemba proved that they are more than just a soup kitchen as they invited local teams to dine at their table.

The iThemba soup kitchen has been providing for the Burning Stars Football Club, which competes at the Germiston Local Football Association.

According to Jenny Scheigansz, head of iThemba, they have been working together with the team for quite a while now.

“Sidwel Makgatho is one of the coaches of the team who came to us and asked if we can assist and help feed the children, so we did,” said Scheigansz.

According to Makgatho, head coach of Burning Stars FC senior team, their relationship with iThemba has been very good.

“I go to the same church as Jenny, and they loved the idea of working with us to feed the youngsters,” said Makgatho.

“Every Wednesday they give our players some rolls or sandwiches and recently Burning Stars FC visited NG Kerk with special treats from Ithemba.”

The team compromises of players from underprivileged backgrounds and the soup kitchen have been a great intervention.

Philani Ncube, head coach and founder, also welcomed the support from iThemba as he said it strengthens the team’s ability to do more.

“We are from Makause informal settlement. These children face so many atrocities. The meals are needed as some often attend games or practice on empty stomachs,” said Ncube.
