Nappy Run hopes to make a difference in the lives of others

Started in 2011 by the Edenvale-based NCPD, the Nappy Run™ is an annual national awareness and nappy donation-drive campaign.

The National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) invited community members to show their support for persons with disabilities by taking part in the council’s first virtual Nappy Run™.

Launched on October 1, this year’s campaign, themed Courage and Kindness, hopes to raise funds to purchase nappies for persons with disabilities and will run until December 3.

The campaign will run in October, South Africa’s Children’s Rights Month and November, Disability Rights Awareness Month, and will end on International Day for Persons with Disabilities.

Public relations officer and communications support for the NCPD, Dylan Mashele, explained that the purpose of the campaign primarily aims to educate the public on the violation of the rights of the country’s most marginalised and vulnerable group, children with disabilities.

He said the campaign is a response to the mandate of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, both of which the SA government is a signatory to.

The virtual run will be held from November 1 to November 6.

Dylan said funds from ticket sales and donations from community members and businesses will go towards the purchase of nappies.

Tickets for the virtual run will cost participants R100.
