Graves vandalised

Primrose Cemetery vandalise

Germiston residents are urged to visit relatives’ graves as vandalism of graves continues.

This comes after the GCN received a call about the vandalisation of graves at Primrose Cemetery.

Cynthia Dlamini, the cemetery supervisor, said the vandalisation of tombstones in the Primrose Cemetery has worsened over the years.

“Nothing is stolen. It would make sense if someone was breaking the stones to steal them,” said Dlamini.

“We called on the police to investigate and I went to the police station to open yet another case. What nerve to disturb the peace of the dead by destroying their tombstones?”

Ward Clr Wendy Morgan urged residents to respect the final resting place of others.

“I think it is sad that there is no respect for people in their resting place, there is so much history in the Primrose Cemetery dating back almost 120 years,” she said.

“Imagine a family member visiting a grave and the tombstone has been destroyed. It is heartbreaking to think how there is no respect for property,” said Morgan.

“There are several broken portions of the fence around the cemetery and this is allowing access to vandals who are destroying tombstones. I appeal to these people that are doing this to think of the heartbreak you are causing,” said Morgan.
