DJ Focus keeps his fans dancing

“My first album was well received and sold 10 000 copies at the time. That for me was a confirmation that people liked my music and inspired me to produce more music,” said DJ Focus.

Lucky Ntswelekile, aka DJ Focus, is using his music to bring joy and to make people dance.

The Dunkeld West-born artist said music has always brought joy in difficult times.

After losing both his parents in a car crash at the age of 14, he found comfort in music.

He joined a music group called T SQUARE and later started his open group, O.Town.

“In 2007, I decided to move to Germiston. When I got here, I worked with the late gospel star, Lundi. I learned about the industry,” said DJ Focus.

While working with Lundi, the artist released his album My Hero.

“It was well received and sold 10 000 copies at the time. For me, that was a confirmation that people liked my music and it inspired me to produce more music,” said DJ Focus.

Over the years, the DJ has collaborated with other artists and also worked as a presenter at a local radio station, Hillbrow Radio.

He shared stages with the likes of Mandoza, Mapaputsi, Sinyaka, the late Brenda Fassie and Kelly Khumalo.

He just released a song called Tunu Tunu, which is a dance track.

GCN asked the DJ about the challenges artists have faced as a result of Covid-19.

“Covid-19 has left artists broke, especially those who depend on events. We had to be creative in how we keep our music alive and our fans entertained. “Digital platforms played a big role because everyone was online,” said DJ Focus.
