Primrose Athletics Club United Stars participated in the Central Gauteng Cross Country Championships on August 28.

The event was held at the Kagiso Sports Complex. Coach Zakhele Gumede said he is proud of the team’s performance.

“It was not easy and the weather was windy and cold, but the athletes did not allow that to affect their performance,” said Gumede.
United Stars collected several medals.

Ntokozo Gumede won gold in the u-17 group with a personal best (PB) time of 14:22 in the 4km.

Nomshado Ndaba also took gold in u-11 girls with a PB time of 11:33 in the 3km, while Elihle Nyezi took home silver for u-8 girls in a time of 4:27 for the 1km.

Siyacela Nkomeni won silver for u-12 with the time of 10:50 in the 3km, while Sihawu Mlambo took bronze in the u-12 boys group with a time of 10:57 in the 3km.

Kgomotso Legong came fourth with a time of 11:01 in the 3km in the boys u-12 group and also qualified for the SAs in KwaZulu-Natal on September 18 in Mazimoti.

Ntombi Gumede came fifth in the girls u-15 group in a time of 15:14 in the 4km and also qualified for the SAs.

Joel Mathusane competed in the senior men (45 to 50 years old) and took a gold medal with a PB time of 28:17.
