Operation Basadi educates community on GBV

“During the operation, we handed out pamphlets on safety and residents were able to interact with the police and raise their concerns,” said Maome.

Primrose SAPS celebrated Women’s Month by educating and creating awareness on gender-based violence (GBV) last Wednesday.

They hosted Operation Basadi and had a roadblock on Rietfontein Road.

“The women and men in blue, led by acting station commander Mbazima Maswanganyi, in partnership with various stakeholders in the Primrose community, wanted to celebrate women by educating and conducting a stop-and-search.

“While searching the vehicles, we also took the opportunity to talk to the motorist about GBV,” said Primrose SAPS spokesperson Styles Maome.

The stakeholders involved were Primrose SAPS, EMPD, Primrose CPF, Ekupholeni NGO, security companies, Primrose Crime Prevention Youth Desk and volunteers from Primrose Victim Empowerment and Reigerpark SAPS Victim Empowerment.

“During the operation, we handed out pamphlets on safety and residents were able to interact with the police and raise their concerns,” said Maome.
